Flooded Homes

The rainy seasons have always caused problems for the families living in the slums. Many homes are low lying and lack adequate drainage. Flooding is on the increase, as the rainy seasons becomes less distinct and heavy rainfall can occur throughout the year.

From the beginning, Karis families have always been provided with ‘double deckers’ (bunk beds). Not only do these beds provide somewhere to sleep, but they create safe storage for belongings when there is flooding in the slums.

Some of the original wooden beds have now deteriorated but have now been replaced with new longer-lasting metal ones. Additionally, all the Karis families are receiving new bedding and mosquito nets, as these have also degraded over time.
