Becky's Run

Story by Becky Lissaman. Reporting by Wendy Allyss. Edited by Will Law.

Having felt a strong call from God to Uganda, Becky joined the Summer Camp 2022 team. Her heart was captivated from the start.

Wanting to not let it stop there, in April, Becky ran her first half marathon in support of Karis Kids.

Here is her story:

Over 20 years ago, our Gracious Father put a passion in my heart to form relationships with people in Uganda.

In 2022, thanks to Karis Kids, I made it out there and met true passionate Christians. Unity is love, love is Jesus, and I love Ugandan people. That is where my heart belongs and is staying.

I have hypermobility (loose ligaments).

This means I am not medically supposed to walk, let alone run. 18 months ago I broke my ankle as well. But I was determined to run, and not just run, but run a half marathon. By prayer and petition by my parents, family and church, Jesus miraculously made it possible.

On 7th April this year, I completed the Southampton Half Marathon with tears of joy and praise in my eyes.

I wanted to use this run to bring awareness to Karis Kids and this wonderful partnership between Uganda and the UK. A seamstress created a beautiful handmade Karis Kids skirt for me. Its bright orange colour catches the eye of all those supporting any race that I run.

I am encouraged in my running by my wonderful club, made up of those with different religious viewpoints, or even none at all. My prayer is that they shall come to know Jesus through conversations with me about Karis Kids.

Two weeks after the half marathon, I badly sprained my ankle.

However, Jesus is a healer, and I have hopes to run a full marathon one day. Imagine the Karis Kids logo flying through 26.2 miles of London!

Jesus works miracles and his timing is perfect.
