January Kampala update

  • There has been an increase in Covid cases in the last month due to Omicron, though the number of deaths remain low in comparison to the UK.

  • All adults (18+) are being encouraged to be vaccinated. Currently 4% of the population have received 2 doses and 28% only 1 dose.

  • There are still requirements to wear masks when outside of the home, socially distance and sanitise frequently.

  • From last Monday (10th January) Pre-primary, Primary & Secondary schools opened fully to all age groups. Vocational colleges and Universities opened last year, with some of the teaching online.

  • Public transport can now operate at 100% capacity. However, only vaccinated adults can travel on them.

  • The 7pm to 5.30am curfew has been lifted, apart from the ban on operating bodabodas (motorbike taxis), which remains in place for a further 2 weeks.
