Kalerwe Clean Up

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Kampala. Kicking off the jubilee activities, the Karis team were involved in the ‘Kalerwe clean up’ last weekend.

Kalerwe is one of the worst slum areas in Kampala and home to 30 of our Karis families. Plastic and rubbish often ends up blocking the drains and culvert contributing to the regular flooding.

A team of over 340 volunteers from across the community and diocese was mobilised under the direction of the Archbishop Rev Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu. They joined Rev Samuel Kanyike and St Nicholas Church (linked with Christ Church Winchester).

The clean up was combined with an evangelistic outreach to the community. 23 people dedicated their lives to Jesus as result — praise God!

Litter blocks drainage channels everywhere.

Flooding in Kalerwe is a frequent occurrence during the rainy season.
